UK's Top 5 Card Battler Apps Show Varied Performance in Q4 2020

As 2020 came to a close, the card battler genre on mobile platforms saw varied performance among the top apps in the United Kingdom. Data from Sensor Tower provides a glimpse into the trends that these popular games experienced during the fourth quarter of the year.

WWE SuperCard - Battle Cards from 2K, released in 2014, showed a strong end to the year with a peak in weekly active users hitting nearly 40K, and revenue reaching over $160K in the week of December 21st. Downloads also saw a significant increase during the quarter, with a notable spike to 3.5K in the week leading up to Christmas.

KONAMI's 2017 release, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links, experienced a dip in revenue from $92K to around $29K in early November but managed to recover to over $53K by the end of December. The game's downloads and weekly active users remained relatively stable, with active users fluctuating around the 35K mark throughout the quarter.

Blizzard Entertainment's Hearthstone, which has been a staple in the genre since 2014, observed a more volatile quarter. Revenue saw a peak at nearly $54K in mid-November, while weekly active users reached a high of 48K in the same period. Downloads in Q4 ranged from 2.5K to 6K, ending the year with a slight decline.

The 2017 game Mighty Party: Battle Heroes from Panoramik Games showed impressive growth during the quarter. Revenue climbed from a modest $6.5K to over $35K in the final week of December. Downloads saw a remarkable increase from under 1K to over 10K, aligning with a rise in weekly active users that more than quintupled from 6.5K to over 35K by year's end.

Lastly, Flaregames GmbH's Warhammer Combat Cards, launched in 2019, had a steady quarter in terms of revenue, peaking at around $11K in late December. Downloads remained consistent, with numbers ranging from a few hundred each week. Weekly active users saw a slight decline, starting at over 2K and dropping to just under 2K by the close of the quarter.
